Some things take time… and money…
I had a few slow months last year as the projects I usually work on in Q2/Q3 were delayed due to COVID. I used this time to work on a „menu“ for a new consulting company with a friend of mine. When I say „menu“, I mean services we believe are beneficial to our clients. Services that set us apart from others. Services that build on years of experience working in the field.
NOW is not the time. What TIME is it?
While we were working on the concept of our business idea, I started connecting with people in Germany and the U.S. on linkedIN to expand my #network. Besides that I started working on sales & marketing materials, a website, and a kick-off to „go live“.
Happy New Year – happy new COMPANY:
As always, I was dedicated to meet deadlines. I thought the perfect time to start my new business was the end of the year 2020 (-> leave old things behind -> start new things). I still hold on to this idea, but meanwhile realized that some things take longer than you expect.
No time to SLEEP – no time to START:
End of October I received a phone call from a provider I’ve been loosely in touch with before. A client needed an expert on #GermanGAAP #IFRS and #GroupReporting. I got this ‚gig‘ and started working long hours to meet deadlines. On weekends I continued to work on my own deadline. Let’s say things went south with my original plan to ‚go live‘ in 2020.
LESSONS learned:
Long story short: Last year was not the time to start my own business. I needed to learn to be patient and re-think what I’m doing and how I do it. When you know you do the right things, then do it right! And in between: get some rest. It’s as simple as that!
However: while I give myself time to re-think my strategy, I want to hold on to our initial claim:
We are trans:acc: We assist. We advise.
This is what we do. This is what we’re good at. This is our passion. This is what I want to do until I retire.
